Hello! I’m Jing Lauengco!
Other Brown Girl CEO + Founder
(The Original OBG)
Born in Manila, having lived in London + now calling Cleveland home, Jing questioned cultural + female + brand identity on day one of being born on Christmas. (“Jing” – short for “Jingle Bells” – you can’t make this stuff up…)

Once upon a time…
Blending Brands + Cultures
As a young Filipina, Jing soon realized her inherited stories + fairytales ran counterculture to her own first-generation childhood + family folklore. (a.k.a. Snowy chimney gift descents. Lit indoor pine trees vs. tropical coconut trees with magical star parol lanterns. Plump old white guys donning red suits breaking + entering. A non-Filipinx Princess waiting in the woods for her non-Filipinx Prince Charming biting red apples vs. mangoes.) What’s a young OBG to do? Or believe?

Brand + Cultural Identity
Connecting to OBG Roots
Jing knew there must be Other Brown Girls from other countries + cultures asking the very
same questions. Fueled by her curiosity to connect with Other Brown Girls to share OBG stories like hers, Jing embarked on a lifelong quest to re-imagine cultural identity, diversity, storytelling, meaning, beauty + belonging – in her own way + in her own words.

Heritages + Homelands
From Manila Rice Fields. To Midwest Corn Fields.
To Cleveland. And Back.
As a young brown girl with a colorful imagination growing up in rural Ohio, Jing saw the power
of word play, cross-cultural connections + creative storytelling. She won a poetry contest + college scholarship to study Journalism, but took too many classes in Art History, Photography, Film + Design, pivoting to become an Entrepreneur + Design Thinker instead.
Jing’s passion for original storytelling + creative journeys grew as an Ad Agency Executive,
Managing Partner + Brand Strategist. Two weeks into the 2017 travel ban, Jing returned to her Manila birthplace to visit her mom’s childhood home for the last time. The 10 hour trek through the Filipino countryside + along the China Sea inspired the OBG community + brand + spirit.

Inspiring OBGs to Share Their Story + Journey
Jing’s currently writing her memoir about this + #OtherBrownGirl adventures, including her recent
cancer comeback. She started capturing her life story for her half-brown boy + son, typing from bed on her MacBook while healing from cancer. Her mission? To empower Other Brown Girls to tell + live their story in their own words + own way. (In fact, she’s likely writing about all of this right now…)
Through her award-winning consultancy JING INC, Jing’s living the dream helping Other Modern Womxn to dream bigger – personally + professionally. To design their lives, businesses + brands for their own next chapter, adventure + comeback.
If you’re a Womxn of Culture living a colorful + creative life + ready to share your OBG story + journey to inspire others, get in touch. Let’s connect + spark new creative + cultural storytelling together.
